Xcel Energy and the City of Golden, CO offer rebates for energy efficiency improvements. These change from time to time. As of February 2022, here are the details:
Xcel Energy Rebates:
You must be an Xcel Energy customer who heats their home with Xcel Energy’s natural gas or electricity.
Energy Efficiency Assessments (Energy Audits):
Infrared energy audit with blower door air leakage test: The rebate is 60% the cost of the energy audit, up to $200. Energy audits typically cost $375 to $495, depending on the size and location of the house.
Insulation and Air Sealing rebate program:
To earn rebates, the work needs to be done by an Xcel Energy-approved contractor.
Rebates are subject to change by Xcel Energy, and you must be an Xcel customer.
Air Sealing:
30% of the cost up to:
$200 for Xcel heated homes
Air leakage must be reduced by 20% or more, as measured by Efficiency Revolution, unless house is tighter than 0.45 Natural Air Changes per Hour (NACH) before improvements are made, or Xcel will not issue any rebates. For homes which start above 0.5 NACH, post-improvement NACH must not be less than 0.3 NACH.
Attic Insulation:
30% of cost up to:$400 for Xcel heated homes. Air leakage must be reduced as noted above, or Xcel will not issue any rebates.
Attic insulation level must be no more than R 15 before upgrading in order to qualify for the insulation rebate.
Above-Grade (above-ground) Wall and Attic Wall Insulation:
30% of the cost, up to $350. Air leakage must be reduced as noted above. Walls must not have any wall insulation before upgrading to earn the rebate.
Home Performance with Energy Star program (HPwES): This starts with an energy audit, and requires 3 or more qualifying improvements, such as the ones listed above.
